TP-Link Deco XE75 Installation: Perfect Mesh Setup
Setting up a Mesh system is slightly different than a traditional router because node placement is the key to success. The TP-Link Deco XE75 makes this easy, utilizing the 6GHz band to link its units together.
Step 1: Setting up the Main Node
Take one of the Deco units out of the box—it doesn't matter which one, they are all identical. This will act as your primary router.
- Power off your internet modem.
- Connect the Deco to your modem using the provided Ethernet cable. Plug it into any of the ports on the back of the Deco.
- Power on both the modem and the Deco. Wait for the Deco's LED light to pulse blue, indicating it is ready for setup.
Step 2: The TP-Link Deco App
Download the "TP-Link Deco" app on your smartphone. You will need to create a TP-Link ID if you don't already have one.
- Open the app and select "Let's Begin."
- Select the XE75 from the list of models.
- The app will automatically find the pulsing blue Deco node via Bluetooth and guide you through creating your Wi-Fi name and password.
Step 3: Placing the Satellite Nodes
This is the most crucial step. If you place the satellite nodes too far away, they won't get a good signal from the main node. If you place them too close, you won't extend your coverage.
- Rule of Thumb: Place the second node halfway between your main node and the Wi-Fi dead zone.
- If you live in a two-story home, place the main node downstairs and the second node directly above it on the second floor.
- Plug in the satellite node. Open the Deco app and tap the "+" icon to add a new Deco. The app will test the connection and tell you if the placement is optimal.
Understanding the 6GHz Backhaul
The Deco XE75 defaults to using the new 6GHz band as a "Dedicated Backhaul." This means the 6GHz band is hidden from your devices and used exclusively for the nodes to talk to each other. We recommend leaving this setting exactly as it is for the fastest speeds.
